Frequently Asked Questions

The word doula is Greek and means “servant”. A birth doula is a person who gives emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, and birth.

All kinds of people hire doulas. Each has a specific reason to do so. To comfort and help during natural births, for cesarean birth support, for specific fears or concerns, or even to have extra support for the birth partner. All fantastic reasons to hire a doula!

A doula is NOT a midwife. A midwife is a health professional who cares for mothers and newborns around childbirth. They are medically trained to deliver babies. A birth doula is trained to be a support person during your pregnancy, labor, and birth.

There is a doula for everyone! You do not need to have an unmedicated birth to seek support from a doula. Every birth, no matter how it happens, is hard work and asks a lot of both you, and your birth partner. Doulas are trained to support you and your decisions.

Yes! Most doulas have a specific area that they serve but can support you at any birth center or hospital that you plan to deliver. I cover Omaha and surrounding areas, including Council Bluffs.

Absolutely! Laboring at home can be such an amazing time for you and your partner. It’s a great way to spend your early labor and has shown to help labor progress. We are always happy to meet our clients at home and support them until they feel it’s time to go to their hospital or birth center.
